Illness, disability or caring
Being unwell or caring for someone can lower your income and raise your costs. You may be entitled to extra support.
First steps
- 1Check if you can get Statutory Sick Pay from your employer.
- 2See if you can claim PIP, Universal Credit or Carer's Allowance.
- 3Tell lenders and energy suppliers β they must treat you fairly if you are vulnerable.
- 4Ask your energy supplier to add you to the Priority Services Register.
Support you may get
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with extra costs of a long-term condition β it is not based on income.
- Carer's Allowance if you care for someone for 35 hours a week or more.
- If mental health is affecting your money, lenders can pause collection using a Debt and Mental Health Evidence Form.
